It is important to know how to keep your body cool in the summer, especially during extreme heat.  When your body produces too much heat, it can cause some serious concerns such as heat stroke—or worse, hyperthermia. Here are some helpful tips on how to stay cool without air conditioning…

  1. Take a cold shower or bath.
  2. Use cold washrags on your neck or wrists.
  3. Use fans.  This not only can help cool a room but can also create more air circulation.
  4. Close your curtains or blinds.
  5. Close the doors of unused rooms.
  6. Choose loose, light-weight, and breathable fabrics like linen or cotton.
  7. Drink plenty of water throughout the day to stay hydrated.
  8. Eat something spicy! You might be surprised to learn that spicy foods can help cool your body down.
  9. Get low! Hot air rises, so set up your bed as close to the ground as possible to beat the heat.  Sleep on the ground floor or in the cool basement instead of on an upper story.
  10. Take advantage of opportunities to keep cool in the community, FIND A COOLING CENTRE NEAR YOU.
