Waterloo Region has many amazing organizations and resources for LGBTQ2S+ community. 

If you are new to the region or community, these are some of the places to help you find the support & resources you need.

 

Spectrum

Who they are: SPECTRUM is Waterloo Region’s very first LGBTQ+/Rainbow community space!

What they doRun programs, have social groups, events, offer resources, have a DVD library, and conduct research.

OK2BMe

Who they are: OK2BME is a set of support services for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender or questioning (LGBTQ) kids and teens in the Waterloo Region.

What they do:  They offer confidential counseling (in person and online), OK2BME Youth Groups for individuals 12-18, as well as public education, consulting and training around LGBTQ2+ issues.

Gender Variant Working Group

Who they are: Gender Variant Working Group is a grassroots organization based in Waterloo Region that gives the opportunity to get involved in activism, educational opportunities, local events, outreach, peer support and more.

What they do: They hold gender inclusive events, work with community organizations, and promote community opportunities.

PFLAG: Waterloo Welington Perth

Who they are: Pflag is a support service for parents with LGBTQ+ children. This is a national charitable organization with a local chapter.

What they do: The local pflag chapter holds a support group for LGBTQ+ parents and parents with LGBTQ+ children.

Rainbow Community Council

Who they are: The Rainbow Community Council (RCC) is an initiative of the Waterloo Region Rainbow Coalition (WRRC) designed to bring together existing community organizations (allied with the Rainbow community) to develop a truly community-wide, sustainable framework for supporting the Rainbow community as a whole.

What they do: Member organizations in the RCC work to address gaps in services; work to avoid duplication of services and resources; collaborate on grants/proposals; and offer other supportive and collaborative initiatives as they relate to the Rainbow community in Waterloo Region.

Waterloo Region Rainbow Coalition

Who they are: The Waterloo Region Rainbow Coalition (WRRC) is a volunteer-based community association that acts as a central hub for the local Rainbow community. They emphasize building partnerships and working collaboratively to meet the needs of the Rainbow community.

What they do: They work on awareness campaigns, running and promoting local LGBTQ+ events, hosting community dialogue, and conducting research at the local level.

GLOW

Who they are: Based on the University of Waterloo campus, Glow is the oldest continually-running university-based LGBTQ group in Canada.

What they do: They offer a wide variety of discussion groups, social events, advocacy opportunities, awareness campaigns, resources, and information.

Contact: Due to COVID-19 they are not physically open at this time or offering in person programs and support, however you can learn more about the GLOW centre through their webpage, check out their virtual events and services on Facebook, or join their mailing list for updates and information.

 

Rainbow Centre

Who they are: The Rainbow Centre, located on the Waterloo Laurier campus is a safe space available to all students, faculty, staff, administrators and visitors who are LGBTQ identified, queer-friendly or allies.

What they do: The Rainbow Centre provides awareness training, programming, research, education, advocacy and support through group events, speaker series, open forums, and a resource library
