What you need:

  • Eggs
  • Food colouring
  • Needle (make sure the needle is long enough to break the egg yolk)
  • White vinegar (if you don’t have vinegar, use lemon juice as a replacement)
  • Mason jars or clear bowls *TIP – use a clear container so you can see the colour of the dye. Use various bowls or mason jars for multiple colours.
  • Tongs or a spoon

Step 1: Hollow out the eggs

Wash and dry each egg! Poke a hole at the top and bottom of each eggshell – one of the holes should be larger than the other. Over a bowl – carefully blow into the bigger hole to get the egg out of the shell. Once this is done, rinse the hollow eggshell & allow to dry completely.

Step 2: Prepare the dye

Mix 1 tbsp vinegar with 1 cup of warm water and food colouring. The more food colouring you use, the colour will be more vibrant! Use multiple clear containers for various colours.

Step 3: Dye the eggs

Carefully place the hollow eggshells in the dye with a spoon or tongs! Leave the eggshells in the dye for 5 – 10 minutes. The longer you leave the egg in the dye, you will get more vibrant of a colour! Remove the dyed eggshells and let dry completely.
